Dance

This afternoon the children took part in a Dance session provided by Beth Bennet, a student from the London Contemporary dance school.

The aim of the session was to observe the therapeutic effects of dance on visually impaired children- e.g improvement in personal or physical self-confidence. The children started with body warm-up exercises...

Then had a listen and respond session listening to music and talking about how it made them feel and how they might move their bodies if dancing.

Then the dancing began...!

The children experienced a variety of differnet music styles, exploring these using simple contemporary movement (more expressive to the individual rather than technical dance).

Beth had already been in school on a number of pre-visits to get to know all the children, and they all had a great time working with her. We would all like to say thank you to Beth for a really enjoyable afternoon.

I pads in class

We have just installed a programme called 'join.me' which mirrors everything on the Interactive White Board onto either a laptop or an ipad. Below you can see it being used in Reception to tell the story of the Very Hungery Caterpillar.

This further reinforces inclusion in the classroom for our VI pupils.

Here the ipad is providing access to work on the class interactive white board at the pupil's desk.

In addition the VI pupil can easily enlarge any part of the screen using the 'ipad pinch'.
Both Year 4 pupils who used the ipad's in their lessons today said that they were great, giving them a little bit more freedom to be independent.

Manor Farm

On the afternoon of Wednesday 27th March, the children and staff of the Oasis visited Manor Farm and Country Park.

To give our children first hand experience of the new life that spring brings, we took them for an afternoon visit to Manor Farm and Country Park for a handling session with the new born animals.

We met 'Jake' the lamb...

'Rambo' the Rooster...

A very fluffy chicken...

Lots of busy ducks...

and hungry piglets...

We even met 'Lily' the dairy cow's unborn calf...she or he was kicking inside her mum!

But best of all we met a tractor!!

We had a fabulous afternoon. Our Visually Impaired pupils had a brilliant hands-on tour of the farmyard. Their senses were bombarded with the sounds, smells and feel of the farm and its animals.
Thank you to the staff at Manor Farm and to Kings Copse PTA who generously funded the outing.
